Impro-Mime: Mime and Puppetry

This Impro-Mime session, conceived and led by Émilie Racine and Laurence Castonguay Emery, was devoted to the encounter between mime and puppetry. The proposals explored the relationship between the body doing the manipulating and the body being manipulated, with the possibility of gradually reversing these roles. The performers worked with various materials and objects, including a large piece of plastic, everyday objects and string puppets, to observe how they could become characters, partners or extensions of the body. Some improvisations also involved speech and narration. The session culminated in a collective composition in which the relationships between mimes, objects and puppets continually shifted, blurring the boundary between the animator and the animated.
