Impro-Mime: Sensitivity, Sensuality and Lifts

This Impro-Mime session, directed by Bryan Morneau, explored sensitivity, sensuality and lifts through dramatic corporeal mime. Sensitivity was understood as listening to oneself and to others, while sensuality deliberately moved beyond romance or sexuality to become bodily awareness, sensory receptiveness, the embodiment of emotions and a celebration of the senses in relation to others. The theme of lifting invited observation of bodies carrying, supporting and lifting one another. The improvisations moved between reconnecting with one’s own sensations, instinctive movements, encounters, contact, revealing oneself and sharing the body in space. Dominiq Hamel, invited as a musical improviser with a movement background of his own, accompanied this exploration by creating a live sound and musical landscape responsive to the performers’ gestures and transformations.
